Mentor Application

Are you an adult who wants to make a difference in the life of a child? Then consider becoming a Quest mentor. Quest mentors provide encouragement and friendship to students in our school-based programs who have expressed the desire for a relationship with a positive adult role model. Mentoring doesn’t take any special skills, just a commitment to share what you know and express interest and support for a young person.

Application/Training
For the protection of our children, all mentors must fill out an application form that includes references, and submit to a federal and state background check. Once this process is complete, you will be invited to attend a six-hour training program. This program will give you a better understanding of the mentoring relationship and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions about your role.

Matching
You will be matched with a student of the same gender who has listed similar interests as you. Quest coordinators work closely with the students while they are in school and will be able to give you insight into your mentee’s personality.

Ongoing Communication
You will join together with your mentee and his/her parents or guardians to develop a relationship that works for all of you. Most pairs keep in touch once a week through phone calls or e-mails and get together once a month to do something fun together. This might include playing basketball, going bowling or to a movie, or just getting together for a meal. Quest also plans periodic activities for mentor pairs to enjoy together. Through these interactions, your relationship will grow and you will become someone your mentee can trust. Because it takes time for the relationship to grow, we ask for at least a 1-year commitment to the program. Many relationships last much longer than this.

Support from Quest
Our coordinators continue to work with the students regularly during school and will keep in touch with you to find out how things are going. If at any time you have questions or issues, our coordinators are there to provide answers and support.
