Assessment Quest for adolescents and
teens. Assessment referrals may come from parents or
caregivers, school systems, the legal system or other
agencies.
Our adolescent counselors specialize in services for young
people. They know how to work with parents who suspect a
problem, but are unsure of what to do. They also understand
teen issues and how to strike up an easy rapport with a young
person.
Our counselors work with families to schedule assessments
at times and locations that do not disrupt school or work
schedules. The counselor meets with the teen and family
individually and together. As a result of the assessment,
recommendations are made for treatment, case management and/or
linkage with the appropriate resources. For information on
scheduling an assessment, see Getting Into Treatment.
Treatment Teens who are part of our
Adolescent Outpatient Treatment program work with counselors
who are specifically trained to work with preteens and teens.
The goal is for the counselor and teen to develop a supportive
one-on-one relationship to help the teen learn skills,
behaviors and attitudes to handle teenage pressures and
support a sober lifestyle. Family involvement is encouraged.
Using evidence-based therapeutic practices, counselors help
teens:
- Address their ambivalence and become involved
in the process
- Work through relationship issues that
contribute to depression and boredom
- Gain a more positive view of themselves, their
world and their futures
